An institute for applied research and development for poultry, rabbit and fish farming plus palmiped production for foie gras, ITAVI’s role is to provide farmers and their supply chains more generally with references alongside the scientific, technical and economic elements and expertise required to improve the sustainability of production.

Created in 1968, the association under France’s 1901 law is recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture and CASDAR (France’s funding source for development).

A team of 30 engineers and technicians is located in Paris and in the provinces, which are supported by: 

  • Its own rabbit experimental station in Rambouillet
  • Shared facilities: INRA’s poultry research unit in Nouzilly, ANSES’s poultry farming experimental station (ANSES) and INRA’s Palmipôle in Artiguères.
  • Pilot farms and breeders’ networks.
