L’Institut Français de la Vigne et du Vin (the French institute of vine and wine) is the technical and scientific organisation serving all stakeholders in the wine industry, with dual qualification as both an agricultural technical institute and a food technology institute.

IFV is therefore a major player in France’s national development plan for rural agriculture and in the structural policies for research and innovation for the period 2014-2020. It is administered by representatives from the industry, either from national organisations or from groups designated to a particular production area.

IFV’s 145 employees (ampelographers, agronomists, geneticists, oenologists, microbiologists etc.) work in 20 units, which are located in all of France’s wine production zones.

IFV therefore also plays a role as the head of a national network of actors in research and development.
