Bringing expertise together, developing techniques

The technical institute dedicated to organic agriculture

Created in 1982, ITAB is an organisation dedicated to the national coordination of research and experimentation in organic agriculture, managed by those working in the sector. The institute brings together experts in the field, researchers and farmers to produce technical references for organic production methods which are useful to both organic and conventional farmers.

3 key tasks

  •  Coordinating organic agriculture’s national research and experimentation network
  • Creating national projects
  • Producing technical knowledge

Operating as a network

ITAB operates in a network with all the actors involved in research and experimentation in organic agriculture and with those who can provide knowledge of benefit to organic production.

In particular, ITAB is based upon:

  •  Research and experimental stations, the coordination of research, experimental farms and the farms of agricultural colleges conducting work on organic agriculture
  • The network of regional and departmental organic farmer groups and regional and departmental Chambers of Agriculture

All kinds of production are included, upstream and downstream

ITAB works on:

  •  Livestock, field crops, viticulture, fruits and vegetables
  • Upstream (agronomy and cropping systems, seeds and seedlings, plant and animal health etc.) and downstream (quality and processing of organic products)
