“Technical and scientific expertise at the service of apiculture”
L’ITSAP-Institut de l’abeille aims to contribute to the development of apiculture in every possible way (applied research, technical and economic assistance, coordination, dissemination, training etc.).
ITSAP-Institut de l’abeille’s apiculture development programme integrates priority research and development actions identified by those in the profession and partners in research and development. The main focus of ITSAP’s work between 2011 and 2013 targeted sensitive areas identified by the industry:
- Improving beehive health
- Improving the genetic potential of bee swarms
- Optimising the services provided by bees to agriculture and boosting bee food resources
- Implementing traceability systems to ensure the quality of hive products
- Implementing a technical-economic observatory for apiaries
The projects initiated and implemented by ITSAP-Institut de l’abeille also mobilise the network of regional apiculture development associations.
ITSAP-Institut de l’abeille also establishes institutional relations with those working in apidology research and development as well as other agricultural technical institutes. For example, it works in partnership with the Institut de l’Élevage (livestock institute) on the estimation of winter bee losses and on the network of reference farms. On issues relating to pollination, it works with institutes and organisations in the crop sectors concerned (CETIOM, ANAMSO, FNAMS).
