Interface between private forest management and applied research
The IDF is the CNPF's research and development department. Its activities are aimed on the one hand at assembling new scientific knowledge in order to build decision-support tools for silviculturists and on the other hand at disseminating knowledge.
It organizes its activities around trees and forests: silviculture and adaptation to climate change, timber economy and services (water, carbon sequestration, biodiversity maintenance), management of hedges and ornamental trees, afforestation of land abandoned by agriculture, agroforestry, and all aspects specific to the environment.
The Institute for Forestry Development multiplies its action through training (thematic and à la carte courses) and publishing (practical manuals, Flore forestière and Forêt-entreprise magazine). It currently mobilizes 24 engineers and technicians.
